Know your Areca Palm Leaf :
Areca is a genus of 51 species of palms in the familty ” arecacease” found in the tropical forests of India and other parts of world. The generic name areca is derived from a name locally on the malabar coast of India. Hence many times, the areca leaves plates or areca leaf plates are also called as palm leaf plates or areca palm leaf plates.
Areca leaves have thickness from 0.5 mm to more than 1.5 mm and length varies upto 1 meter. These have a characteristic smell, the aroma of its own, which does not mix with the food taste and remains neutral. These are disposables and once mixed with earthen soil, they start biodegrading and compost completely in max 180 days. The compost thus generated is a natural fertilizer with very high quality of nutrients for the soil. Cycle of Nature is thus completed and plays very important role in sustainability of our Eco System. Thus, let us contribute in promoting products made from them.
The natural thin lines, grooves present on the leaves are unique like our finger print and so no two leaves are same. They becomes smooth while being Hot Pressed in moulds during manufacturing of the plates. The colour of the leaves varies from almost Pale yellow white to the Redish Brown, Brown, Dark Brown, Tan, & Black Brown. All these are natural colours and not to be confused as only White Colour is the cleanest quality. All colours are natural. Quality of Plates cannot be judged based on the colour of leaf. Quality has to be judged based on the parameters of sturdiness, smooth finishing & cleanliness.

Process
Sourcing
Areca Tree shades almost 8 leaves on an average per year. Farmers collect these and submit at collection centers. From there these are supplied further to the manufacturing units.
Cleaning
Once sorted, the leaves are cleaned with high-pressure jet water so that any kind of dirt remaining gets completely cleaned. After that, leaves are soaked in water to retain moisture.
Semi-Drying
Once the leaves are cleaned, they are placed separately allowing it to semi-dry effectively.
Hot Press
The dried leaves with adequate moisture is than INSERTED into the Moulds of required shapes in HOT PRESSED Hydraulic Press with temperatures 180 degree celcius. This remains hot pressed for atleaset 60 seconds It becomes completely hygenic at the time of getting its shape.
Quality check & packaging
The Final product undergoes rigorous quality check and only the best quality are Shrink Wrapped. Shrink Wrap plays very important role in protecting these products from Dust and outer environmental moisture. Silica Gel is placed in Pack inside shrink wrap packs, absorbs any kind of additional moisture.
Composting & Manure
Basilbloom’s dinnerware are made from leaves and hence are perfect for composting. Once you’re done using them, you can go ahead and add them to your compost pile and use it as manure for plants or tree.
